Session Type: Symposium
This symposium features research critically examining the consequences of anti-immigrant and nationalistic policies targeting immigrant and international students across the PK-20 educational continuum. Authors explore both the impact of, complicity with or resistance to policies threatening this population of students. Participants will present five papers addressing three objectives. Panelists address the following: a) historical, social and political context shaping immigrant BIPOC students' experiences; b) empirical cases of immigrant and international BIPOC students navigating current anti-immigrant policies in K12 and higher education; c) implications for practice, policy and research in K-12 and in higher education. Together, these papers provide an incisive view of the consequences of anti-immigrant, xenophobic policies threatening students’ lives and the ethics of responding to said threats.
