Session Type: Roundtable Session
This symposium centers Hip Hop practitioners and cultural participants as essential contributors to the past, present, and future of education research. Drawing on historically grounded examples and culturally sustaining pedagogies, presenters examine how exclusion of practitioners from academic spaces limits the authenticity and transformative potential of Hip Hop studies. By “unforgetting” practitioner-led innovations and reimagining their roles in higher education, this session offers a vision for more inclusive, justice-centered research agendas. Through global and interdisciplinary perspectives, we explore how Hip Hop’s values of community, creativity, and resilience can guide future-focused educational frameworks. Attendees can expect a lively, engaging discussion on the power of practitioner-scholar collaboration in shaping more equitable futures for teaching, learning, and research.
