Session Type: Symposium
Teachers' visions have been conceptualized in varying ways to understand how teachers' images of the future orient their work. However, studies of the features and implications of teachers’ visions are often generalized or content-specific, therefore we understand very little about how elementary teachers' visions for instructional practice compare across content areas. This symposium puts in conversation three studies of elementary teachers’ visions while participating in ongoing professional learning. The papers in this session consider varying perspectives for understanding and comparing elementary teachers’ visions for mathematics and English language arts instruction to share insights into goals for student learning, make connections to instructional practice, and how teachers make sense of their visions in their school context.
