Emancipatory Pro-Black and Pro-Latinx Reading Research and Teaching

Sat, April 11, 9:45 to 11:15am PDT (9:45 to 11:15am PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Room 301A

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

In this symposium, multiple scholars and classroom teachers will share findings from research and teaching that focus on emancipatory pro-Black and pro-Latinx reading research and teaching. These studies foreground student voices, center justice-oriented pedagogies, and challenge reductive, standardized approaches to literacy instruction. Framed through a commitment to social, cultural, and linguistic justice (Paris & Alim, 2017; Souto-Manning, 2021), the session features research and practices that embrace multilingual, multimodal, and globally-relevant literacies.
