Session Type: Symposium
This session underscores the value of a research-practice partnership model in developing an accessible, research-based reading assessment. We introduce the Rapid Online Assessment of Reading (ROAR), a scalable, open-access platform for assessing key reading skills. Grounded in research through research-practice partnerships, ROAR provides psychometrically sound, lightly gamified, and computer-adaptive assessments that support dyslexia screening and informs instructional choices. Five interrelated presentations will (1) provide an overview of ROAR and its application in dyslexia screening, (2) demonstrate recent innovations in computer-adaptive and gamification of ROAR-Word, (3) highlight how large-scale validations were made possible from strong research-practice partnerships, (4) present the development and validation of ROAR-Spanish, and (5) of ROAR’s comprehension suite.
