Session Type: Symposium
Community schools are gaining national traction as an equity-driven, research-based school improvement strategy. Often perceived to be an urban-centric strategy, community schools are gaining prominence in rural communities across the country. This session highlights much needed research on community school implementation in rural settings. The papers are from four distinct rural areas in the US: Vermont, North Carolina and Tennessee, Kentucky, and California. Each paper highlights how community schools manifest in their unique settings, fills a research gap, and offers considerations for policy makers and practitioners interested in supporting rural community school implementation.
