Session Type: Workshop
As a multigenerational panel, we seek to share the origin stories of mentoring practices and draw on that knowledge to articulate a deeper understanding of critical mentoring and its implications for a collective vision for educational research. Examining the critical mentoring practices and experiences of Latina/o/x first-generation faculty via this panel expands upon the existing critical mentoring literature. All the critical mentors on the panel were trained in traditional fields; yet, their current approaches to the way they mentor students to become educational researchers seem to be synergistically linked to their ongoing critical consciousness development and evolution. Co-producing groundbreaking knowledge that is rooted in historical context and community-engaged knowledge production processes highlights the benefits of practicing critical mentoring.
