Session Type: Symposium
This session responds to the Annual Meeting's call to reimagine educational futures by asking: What are the possibilities in anti-poverty research to support student economic mobility and what partnerships are needed to realize them? We explore a partnership between the Los Angeles Community College District and a university-based research center to develop the largest unconditional cash transfer initative for community college students in the U.S. Amid financial attacks on higher education, this session offers analysis of systematic inequities facing institutions and students, and the potential of transfers to buttress student success in the urban context. Drawing on insights of students, administrators, and researchers, we offer equity-driven partnership strategies that advance socioeconomic, racial and ethnic equity in postsecondary education.
