Liberatory Evaluation Practices: Utilization, Identity, and Community in Educational Research

Thu, April 9, 7:45 to 9:15am PDT (7:45 to 9:15am PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Poster Hall - Exhibit Hall A

Session Type: Poster Session

Abstract

This session brings together two qualitative studies that examine how evaluation can serve as a tool for transformation in educational contexts. The first study investigates evaluation utilization in a multi-site STEM program, highlighting the importance of early stakeholder engagement, relevant questions, and accessible reporting. The second study centers graduate student voices through pláticas—dialogic, decolonial conversations—to explore identity, mentorship, and equity in evaluation. Together, these studies offer practical and conceptual insights into fostering meaningful use and imagining liberatory futures through culturally grounded evaluation practices.
