Session Type: Paper Session
This session explores how Catholic schools are responding to the growing diversity of their students and families. Papers examine how teachers develop asset orientations toward ethnoracially diverse learners, how Hispanic parents engage with Catholic school communities, and how shared Catholic identity shapes perceptions of school climate across ethnic backgrounds. Additional studies consider the induction of novice teachers in multicultural settings and systemic efforts to improve urban Catholic schools serving diverse populations. Together, these papers highlight the opportunities and tensions Catholic schools face as they work to align their mission with the lived experiences of diverse students and families.
