Supporting Youth Activism in Hostile Times: Case Studies in Deepening YPAR Practices

Fri, April 10, 11:45am to 1:15pm PDT (11:45am to 1:15pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Room 515B

Session Type: Structured Poster Session

Abstract

This poster session considers the need for deepening youth participatory action research (YPAR) methods, approaches, and support as youth engage in active resistance to social inequities during a period of political repression. This session combines seven youth participatory action research (YPAR) projects from Colorado, Kentucky, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, and Wisconsin. Authors will present a poster that describes a YPAR project and ways in which scholars and practitioners have worked together to deepen or revise existing methods, approaches, or support to better meet the demands of the moment. Topics include teaching research methods, assessing YPAR, examining problems of practice, uncovering feminist leadership structures, critiquing curricula, and doing arts-based YPAR. After concurrent presentations, a discussant will engage the audience in conversation.
