Session Type: Roundtable Session
This session explores the multifaceted influence of parents and families on students’ educational motivation, sense of belonging, and attainment across ages and contexts. Researchers consider the role of parent expectations in youths’ math motivation and trajectories, parental multimodal revoicing’s impact on children’s computational thinking and engagement, the ways parents of adolescents with autism spectrum disorder monitor and regulate their children’s sense of school belonging, and how parental involvement and aspirations influence students’ college pathways for Latinx students. Together, these studies emphasize the powerful, nuanced ways families foster motivation, belonging, and achievement, and highlight equity-oriented strategies to support diverse learners on their educational journeys.
