Session Type: Roundtable Session
In this session, presenters will share insights about educating for democracy in a variety of international contexts. The first paper will explore how the Hong Kong government has reconstructed the meanings of good citizenship during this new era. The second paper will explore the relationship between democratic values and having civic knowledge through grade 5 and 6 student data from Dutch primary education. The third paper examines the relationship between civic-related school experience and students’ future civic outcomes. The final paper will examine a case that shows how a South African student teacher addressed planned and unplanned controversial issues.
