Division B Fireside Chat: Rooted Futures: Race, Gender, and Technology as Curricular Tools of Resistance

Wed, April 8, 1:45 to 3:15pm PDT (1:45 to 3:15pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Room 402A

Session Type: Invited Speaker Session

Abstract

In an era of rapid technological advancement—particularly in AI, educational applications, and instructional technologies—scholars must consider curricular and strategic approaches that respond to civil rights rollbacks and restrictions on educational communities. This Fireside Chat invites reflection on past curriculum resistance practices and their transformative impact. By acknowledging these contributions, we can (re)imagine how race, gender, and technology intersect as both curriculum and strategy—rooted in history, yet structured for liberatory futures. The session will explore: (1) What can graduate students and junior scholars learn from past scholars and practitioners to navigate today’s sociopolitical climate? (2) How can technological tools be leveraged toward liberatory possibilities?
