Division F Fireside Chat: Boundless Education: Historicizing Diaspora, Migration, and Transnational Educational Histories in Times of Anti-colonial Struggle

Thu, April 9, 4:15 to 5:45pm PDT (4:15 to 5:45pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Room 402A

Session Type: Invited Speaker Session

Abstract

Aligning with the AERA 2026 Annual Meeting theme, “Unforgetting Histories and Imagining Futures: Constructing a New Vision for Education Research,” this session turns to the archive and critical historiographies to exhume educational histories that resist forms of domination in schooling, insist upon human flourishing and educational striving in an anti-colonial world, and, on occasion, breach the boundaries of the nation-state to explore otherwise geographies of liberatory educational arrangements. Panelists will be invited to share insights from their research, methods, advocacy, and pedagogy that will help us to explore how educational enactments of marronage, sovereignty, abolition, reparation, fugitivity, decoloniality, and their conceptual kin have unsettled white supremacy in colonial schooling and its afterlives.
