Session Type: Paper Session
This session examines the intersections of equity, technology, and new literacies. The papers collectively highlight how digital and AI-mediated environments both replicate inequities and hold promise for transformative change. One paper applies QuantCrit methods to document racial disparities in digital reading among adolescents, while another investigates how teacher educators envision culturally responsive integration of artificial intelligence. The third paper explores how AI can amplify minority voices in STEM higher education. The added paper extends the discussion to PK–12 settings, where multicultural competence initiatives aim to prepare educators for leadership in diverse classrooms. Together, these contributions reveal the tensions between systemic inequities and the democratizing possibilities of emerging technologies and inclusive practices in education.
