Session Type: Roundtable Session
This session focuses on strengthening mentoring through training, assessment, and digital tools. Presentations examine how mentor training can move projects from “busy work” to purposeful research experiences; validate a bidirectional performance scale for mentors and mentees; and analyze affective language in text-based communication to predict outcomes in online mentoring. A concluding synthesis reviews current STEM mentoring programs to identify promising practices and gaps. Attendees will gain actionable guidance on designing mentor development, selecting or validating measurement instruments, and leveraging technology to enhance communication, track progress, and improve mentee learning and career growth.
