Abstract

In this presidential address, Winn builds the case that innovations in education should engage both historical methods and foresight thinking. Drawing on historical signals, she demonstrates how parents, educators, artists, and community members worked collectively to build teaching and learning communities with a focus on institution building in the decade following the Civil Rights Movement. According to Winn, these visionaries offer enduring lessons for how we imagine and enact the future of education.
