The Perspectives of Deans on Navigating Graduate Student and Early Career Trajectories: An Open Discussion

Session Type: Invited Speaker Session

Abstract

Building off the open discussion led by members of the AERA-CURI Executive Committee meeting that was held during the 2025 AERA Annual Meeting in Denver, this session will provide an opportunity for deans of colleges of education to speak to issues that graduate students and early career scholars are facing at this moment.

Session attendees are encouraged to bring questions that address the challenges and opportunities they see as they begin their career trajectories in education research. Graduate students and early career scholars have seen shifts in the job market and uncertainties in funding for education research, and have raised questions about whether to pursue specific topics in their research. These issues have also been compounded by updates to regulations for financial aid that are particularly of note for graduate students.
