Learning About the Digital Literacy Practices of Refugee Children

Abstract

The study purpose was to examine the digital literacy practices of two refugee children aged between 7 and 9 years. The data sources included field notes based on observations during home visits, audio recordings of family conversations and interviews, artifacts made by the participants, and informal conversations. The findings showed that both children engaged in digital literacy practices such as playing video games and video chatting with family members. The findings also indicated the participants’ linguistic, cultural, religious, and digital literacy identities. Implications will be discussed at the conference.
