Despite some studies have been conducted to reveal the impact of individual differences variables on vocabulary learning, studies focusing on demonstrating the simultaneous effects of individual differences variables remains unclear. This study examined the relationships between those individual differences factors. Also, the moderating effect of gender on the vocabulary learning pattern was investigated. Participants were 401 high school students in China. Data were collected by using several vocabulary learning questionnaires and a test measuring vocabulary proficiency. Results revealed motivation and self-efficacy mediated the relationship between self-regulating capacity and vocabulary learning strategies. Vocabulary learning strategies further mediated the relations between self-efficacy, motivation, and vocabulary proficiency. We also found that the relations were not moderated by gender differences.
