Although Black women student-athletes share similar academic interactions and experiences as those of Black women nonathlete students, athletic participation adds an additional dimension. Thus, the purpose of this study was to unpack what the “student” side of the “student-athlete” experience looks like for Black women student-athletes. Guided by Black feminist thought, three themes emerged which highlight participants’ experiences navigating the academic terrain of college life and responsibilities related to being a college student and how their athletic identity and responsibilities influenced their academic identity.
