Can Models of Distributed Leadership Mobilize Networked Generated Innovation in England's Schools? A Case Study

Abstract

There is an increasing focus in education on using networks to drive school improvement. To achieve the benefits of engaging in networks requires leaders to think and act differently. To benefit all teachers and students, the leaders of schools participating in networks must actively support the mobilisation of networked-driven innovations. One such approach is enabling distributed leadership. At the same time, distributed leadership, as a means of facilitating the mobilisation of network-led innovation, is a relatively understudied area. This paper explores how a distributed leadership approach can support innovation mobilisation and what is required for it to do so effectively.
