Preservice teachers frequently complete field work hours, but the quality of mentorship provided varies. Due to pandemic restrictions on in-person placements, South Mountain University implemented a virtual classroom application, simSchool, to provide secondary preservice teachers with field work hours. A mixed-method analysis of focus group interviews, student reflections, and pre-post responses to two questionnaires revealed preservice teacher perceptions of increased internal locus of control for student success and greater self-efficacy for classroom management. Students also recognized the complexity of the classroom, particularly setting routines and addressing the needs of diverse learners. Consequently, use of virtual classroom simulations provides targeted feedback that, in conjunction with in-person field work experiences, improve beginning teacher skills in providing equitable learning experiences for all students.
