The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a technology-based graphic organizer (TBGO) with embedded strategy instruction and self-regulated learning strategies on the holistic writing quality of persuasive essay writing by 5th-grade students who struggle with writing and to understand teachers’ perceptions about the usefulness of the tool. Results revealed that students improved the quantity and quality of their writing after receiving instruction with the TBGO. Further, teachers perceived the TBGO to be highly useful for students who struggle with writing and believed that the TBGO helped them to improve their writing instruction and helped increase students’ confidence as writers.
