Because of the national state of political and social unrest, more focus is needed regarding how universities prepare teacher educators to not only cultivate equitable educational systems, but model this practice for preservice teachers in order to best serve historically underrepresented and marginalized populations. This curriculum and instruction department began transformation efforts to redress educational inequalities and build systems that embrace equity and justice-including a partnership with US PREP, strategic plan, and action steps. The findings illustrate the challenges and successes involved in this transformation including a number of themes connecting to the research questions. Transformation alone is not enough. This university is dedicated to new systems, pedagogies, and approaches; however this shift did not come without significant challenges.
