Participatory Action Research With MSW Students: Examining Best Practices With Remote Learning

Mon, April 25, 4:15 to 5:45pm PDT (4:15 to 5:45pm PDT), AERA Virtual Poster Rooms, AERA Virtual Poster Room 1

Abstract

With the advent of COVID-19, an MSW program in the Northeast, known to attract nontraditional and diverse students for its in-person, student-focused nature, was forced to go online. In order for the program to learn best practices with remote learning, a professor obtained a fellowship from the institution to co-design and carry out a study with students in a fall 2020 qualitative research class to teach students how to conduct a qualitative study, and to obtain valuable information to strengthen delivery of online courses in support of student engagement, learning and retention. Achieving a better understanding of the needs of students in relation to their online learning can improve its quality as an educational tool (Armstrong, 2011).
