The Potential of Electronic Performance Support Systems to Promote Employee Learning

Fri, April 22, 11:30am to 1:00pm PDT (11:30am to 1:00pm PDT), San Diego Convention Center, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

To learn more about the potentials of Electronic Performance Support Systems (EPSS) to promote workplace learning, a survey with 652 users of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software was conducted. They answered questions on work and team characteristics, individual dispositions and coping with ERP-related problems. Findings indicate that less sophisticated EPSS are already available often, while sophisticated EPSS are still rare but are used intensively if available. Some EPSS are more frequently available to and used by ERP administrators and SAP consultants, as compared to other user groups. ERP users wish for features such as context-sensitivity, an integration of the EPSS into the ERP system’s user interface and the option to save one’s own notes for similar cases in the future.
