Dialogic Use of Data for Achievement, Equity, and Well-Being

Abstract

One key challenge in today’s society is how to use data to improve the quality of decision making in schools. This paper puts forward an argument for the dialogic use of data, consisting of a dialogue around every step of the data use process: From goal setting to data collection, to sense making, to implementing improvement measures. The premise underpinning this idea is that the dialogue around data (use) is necessary for being able to use these data to improve education in terms of achievement, equity and wellbeing. Dialogic use of data provides educators with the opportunity for co-construction of learning based on data, and consequently with ideas to improve their practice and the learning and wellbeing of their students.
