Analysis of Middle-Grades Language Arts Textbooks: Identifying Frequently Included Instructional Practices, Genres, and Relationships

Abstract

Adopted textbook series and similar curriculum materials are ubiquitous in K12 education. However, little research has investigated the instructional practices included within these materials, and the relationships of those practices to the text genres included within the texts, specifically for ELA textbooks. Thus, the purpose of this content analysis is to investigate the instructional practices included in six middle grades ELA textbook series and their relationships to the included text genres within these textbooks.
