A Pilot Refugee Adolescent Program: Fostering Resettled Refugee High School Students' Self-Efficacy and Career Pathways Development

Abstract

This proposal examines adolescent students’ growth in a pilot support program for refugee high school students. Intends to explore refugee high school students’ self-efficacy and knowledge regarding career goals, this study uses a qualitative research method to explore the key ingredients of program practices. What fosters resettled refugee high school students’ self-efficacy and career pathways? The research employed semi-structured interviews and focus groups. Nineteen people participated in this study, including seventeen students and two program staff members. Through thematic analysis, two preliminary themes emerged, including Langue as a Tool and Knowledge is Power. In the presentation, implications will be provided to inform professional practices and a conceptual model will be discussed to support the research findings.
