In-Company Training Quality: A Matter of Perspective?

Abstract

Despite the importance of dual VET, multi-perspective studies on the quality of in-company training remain rare. Previous studies do not commonly go beyond descriptive analyzes of a single actor group, mostly trainees. However, the few multi-perspective findings indicate that trainee and trainer quality assessments differ widely. This study confirms those findings at the group level by using survey data (311 trainees, 30 trainers). Furthermore, it shows the significance of the perspective taken for modeling links between different quality dimensions: Bilateral modeling, which considers differences in perception, correlates significantly higher with trainees' drop-out intentions than does their unilateral quality assessment. Additionally, certain trainee characteristics are shown to partly explain differences in perception.
