Intrafamily Communication Styles and Their Influence on the Self-Image of Israeli Druze Adolescents

Abstract

In the last fifty years, the world has undergone transformations and transitions from the traditional period to the modern period, and more recently to the post-modern period. These transitions have created processes of change in thinking patterns and self-perception within the family unit. This study examines communication styles between parents and their adolescent children in the Druze family in Israel, families who lives are organized around a traditional family model. The study asks, how does openness and exposure to the modern world affect intra-family relationships in Israeli Druze communities? What are the patterns of communication between traditional Druze parents and their adolescent children? Does the nature of these relationships affect adolescents' self-image?
