Examining the Impact of an Extended Practicum and Student Teacher Experience: Perceptions of Teacher Candidates, Cooperating Teachers, and University Supervisors

Abstract

A team of teacher education researchers conducted a phenomenological study to explore the perceptions of teacher candidates (TCs), their cooperating teachers (CTs), and university supervisors (USs) before and after a newly designed joint practicum and student teaching experience. All participants completed an open-ended survey near the beginning and end of the experience. Analysis indicated that all participants indicated changes in the pre/post survey in the areas of knowledge, experienc,e and confidence. The findings from this study are significant because unlike other studies that just examine the perspectives of one group of the triad, the goal of this research was to understand the perspectives of the entire triad (TC, CT, and US).
