Validation of the PSC-17-Y in Chinese Elementary, Middle, and High School Adolescents

Abstract

The current study validated the PSC-17-Y using a Chinese adolescent sample (N=21,239). The factor structure, measurement invariance of gender and grade level, and convergent and divergent validity were examined. A three-factor structure was validated, with three items removed from the original scale. In addition, measurement invariance was established across gender and grade groups. Latent mean difference results indicated that females (compared to males) as well as middle and high school (compared to primary school) adolescent students reported more internalizing and attention problems. Finally, the study established convergent and divergent validity with external scales. These results are of significance to educators – including teachers, school administrators, and school psychologists – who may utilize them to identify adolescents at risk for behavioral and emotional problems.
