Developing Antiracist Praxis in the University: Women of Color and Duoethnography

Abstract

This paper examines the experiences of racism of two Women of Color in the university - one faculty and one doctoral student. Drawing on an intersectional Marxism, the paper discusses the complicit role of the university with racial-colonial capitalism. Engaging in duo ethnography the two women share stories that exemplify the persistent and insidious nature of racism and its intersections and the difficulties with challenging incidents that are connected to systems of policy and normalized practice. However, they also share how together they forge ties that help them maneuver some of these systems toward antiracist pedagogy and more humanizing relations.
