"I Did Actually Learn Something About Myself": Place Within the Positionalities of Global History Teachers

Abstract

This paper shows how global history teachers’ sense of place within their home and travel experiences contributed to their positionalities as global educators. Using qualitative research methods, seven New York City public school global history teachers discussed how their travel and home experiences informed the ways they positioned and understood themselves within the world and their global education teaching. This study addressed the gap in the literature on teacher positionalities (Mensah, 2012) as well as the lack of empirical studies in world history and global education and their intersection (Girard & Harris, 2018).
