Meeting the Moment: Career and Technical Education Transfer, a Vision for Success

Abstract

The California Community College system is comprised of 116 colleges featuring more than 200 Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways. CTE pathways matriculate a high number of underserved students, as Reed et al. (2018) indicates “CTE students in California are more likely to be from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds than students who do not participate in CTE” (p. 11). According to Wolzinger (2017) Community College (CC) students that matriculate into CTE pathways do not transfer at the same rate as students in other academic programs. With over 70% of California public higher education students in CC’s, the transfer function to increase baccalaureate degree attainment cannot be overstated (Johnson & Senguta, 2009).
