Predicting Learning Outcomes in Times of COVID-19: Students', Parents', and Teachers' Perspectives During School Closure

Abstract

School closures in 2020 quickly led to many studies on distance learning. While most of the studies rely on a single perspective – either student, parent, or teacher data – we present results from a multiple informant study in which we compare prediction models based on different perspectives. More precisely, we explored the impact of a broad range of features of distance education on central student learning outcomes using reports from students, parents, and teachers in German and Austrian secondary schools. Although findings from relative weight analyses yield a quite similar pattern across the three respondent groups, some predictors (i.e., parental support) largely differ between the groups. We discuss the implications of your findings for future educational practice and research.
