The Unified Model of Task-specific Motivation integrates six different theories on motivation. It uses valences (affective and cognitive) and antecedents (personal and contextual) for predicting the motivation of participants to transfer gains from training to their work practice. Based on the differences in valences a variety of profiles among trainees can be distinguished. In this study, 1317 participants filled in a questionnaire directly after attending a training and after six weeks. Latent profile analysis was used to examine valence profiles. Outcomes reveal that multiple valence profiles exist and show the way they predict transfer motivation and transfer of training. Results can inform training practice and contribute to improving training transfer and increasing the impact of trainings on practice.
