Thu, April 21, 2:30 to 4:00pm PDT (2:30 to 4:00pm PDT), SIG Virtual Rooms, SIG-Leadership for School Improvement Virtual Roundtable Session Room

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to understand the mediating roles of professional learning communities and job satisfaction in the relationship between distributed leadership and teachers’ commitment to change. Based on responses from 812 middle school teachers in 18 schools in a northern city in China, this study revealed the strong mediating roles of professional learning communities and teachers’ job satisfaction in the relationship between distributed leadership and teachers’ commitment to change. The direct positive relationship between distributed leadership and teachers’ commitment to change was also verified. These findings contribute to the understanding of the effects of distributed leadership across cultures and to improving education practices in similar contexts.
