Abstract

This paper analyzes The Manitoba Teacher, the principal publication of the Manitoba Teachers’ Society. Continuity and change of how Indigenous learners enter into the discourse of the publication are investigated as a means to understand how the education system in Manitoba has included and perceived Indigenous learners. The paper argues what has remained a constant in the history of public school in Manitoba is the gap between Indigenous peoples not having control of the design of their education and the need for white settlers to offer education in a colonial context.
