Advancing Digital Campus Climate in Higher Education: A Conceptual Framework and Metric for Bolstering Inclusivity

Abstract

Through synthesizing contemporary campus climate and digital campus climate research, we conceptualize a framework and metric for higher education leaders to assess how their institutions may improve their digital campus climate. Our digital campus climate framework and metric accounts for various platforms institutions use in communicating information (websites, social media, and learning management systems), dynamic levels existing in digital spaces (Authors), and five factors that shape digital spaces: accessibility, depth, engagement, relevance, and representation. Recommendations stemming from our metric will guide how higher education practitioners re-envision their digital spaces to promote inclusivity.
