The Conspiratorial Behavior in Teaching Evaluation: The Special Phenomenon and Governance Path of Chinese Universities

Abstract

With the increasing tendency of managementism in Chinese university`s teaching evaluation, there are many ‘conspiracy’ behaviors that grassroots teaching units and teachers plan together to cope with various teaching inspections and unexpected situations when implementing the teaching evaluation policies organized by the higher organizations. This behavior in teaching evaluation is caused by the incompatibility and contradiction between the organizational environment of universities and the implementation of the teaching evaluation system, and gradually evolves into an informal and legal behavior with its repeated occurrence. In order to govern this anomie, we should have constructed an orderly situation of teaching evaluation in colleges and universities from two aspects: external normative management system and internal balanced development mechanism.
