Abstract

As market models expand across the United States (and globe), it is likely that socially-just school leaders are increasingly finding themselves working within these districts. While research has suggested a relationship between socially-just leadership and market models, very little research has deliberately examined the interplay of socially-just leadership and markets. Within this mixed-methods study I explore socially-just leaders’ practices within seven U.S. school districts incorporating educational market models with attention to how ,arket contexts constrain or otherwise shape socially-just leadership practice, and what role socially-just practice plays within markets.
