Setting Down Roots: Instituting Formerly Incarcerated Student Programming at Community Colleges for Retention and Persistence

Abstract

This phenomenological study explored experiences of staff and faculty who support formerly incarcerated students. Data collection included semi-structured interviews with seven faculty and staff from six California community colleges. All participants identified as system-impacted and/or formerly incarcerated. Findings can inform policies, practices, and programs for increased access and retention.
