"Global Is Here and Out There": An Exploration of Teachers' Global Education Pedagogical Practices

Abstract

Global education is urgently needed in secondary classrooms. This qualitative study investigates the curricular and pedagogical practices and decision-making of six secondary teachers for teaching global perspectives. Aligning with Tye’s (2014) goals of global education, findings indicate that teachers emphasized global interconnectedness in their teaching, especially through critical views of U.S. roles in the world; they centered perspectives taking through a variety of sources; and took action on the limited curriculum available for global education. This work expands humanities and social education practice to incorporate a global perspective and engage in interdisciplinary/transdisciplinary approaches.
