Build Back Better? High School Teachers Reflect on Schooling During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Mon, April 25, 2:30 to 4:00pm PDT (2:30 to 4:00pm PDT), San Diego Convention Center, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

This case study analyzed the reflections of ten high school teachers and administrators during the covid-19 pandemic. Interview data gathered from fall 2020 until spring 2021 supports emerging research that underscores the technological challenges and emotional tensions facing teachers and students during the pandemic. Organization change theory provides an interpretative lens to analyze teachers' vision for schools post pandemic and introduces proposals that schools can 'build back better’ through structural reform, expansion of services, and solutions to global challenges of climate change, poverty, and inequality.
