Thu, April 21, 11:30am to 1:00pm PDT (11:30am to 1:00pm PDT), San Diego Convention Center, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

How are California’s administrator preparation programs preparing educational leaders to prioritize educator diversity?

This presentation is designed to share the collective experiences and voices of educational leadership professors as they prepare future educational leaders to prioritize educator diversity in their schools. Preliminary findings indicate structural and institutional barriers that impact preparation of educational leaders from prioritizing educator diversity. Key best practices in addressing these barriers through preparation, instruction and CalAPA will be highlighted.

Specifically, how has the California Administrator Performance Assessment (CalAPA) utilized as a vehicle to support educator leaders in prioritizing educator diversity. Specifically, the performance assessment consists of three leadership cycles that can be utilized as a frame to help future leaders: Leadership Cycle 1: Analyzing Data to Inform School Improvement and Promote Equity, Leadership Cycle 2: Facilitating Communities of Practice, and Leadership Cycle 3: Supporting Teacher Growth. This research will help faculty in administrator preparation programs better recruit, prepare and support individuals of color.
