Pedagogies for Viral Times: An Itinerant School

Abstract

This paper tells the story of a school’s response to the pandemic: an itinerant school. We outline how early childhood educators engaged in (re)creating a pandemic ethos by cultivating new conditions of transformation. COVID-19 brought the urgent need to redefine what education is for - propelling us to identify creative, site-specific responses to support transformative living, or new life-making.

We employed feminist theoretical frameworks and a feminist qualitative research design.

The itinerant school created a meeting and convivial space that proposed experiences focused on
weaving situated bonds and relationships amongst children to respond to contemporary times.
